The initial issuance of UN carbon credits, established under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, is now under intense scrutiny. These credits were generated for a cookstove project situated in Myanmar.
Significant concerns have emerged regarding alleged connections between these carbon credits and the military junta. Furthermore, the project is associated with reports of human rights abuses occurring in the conflict-affected Sagaing region.
Adding to the controversy are claims that the emissions reductions attributed to the project have been massively overstated. These multiple allegations have prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the matter.
