Ocean philanthropy represents a small segment of the overall funding landscape. When focusing specifically on solutions that address both ocean health and climate change, the financial commitment dwindles further.
This significant gap was a recurring theme at the recent “Sea Change” panel. The event, held as part of the Philanthropy Asia Summit, brought together experts to discuss ocean-climate solutions in Asia.
Participants repeatedly pointed out the disconnect between the ocean’s central role in the global climate transition and the comparatively limited philanthropic investment directed towards it. This underfunding presents a challenge for developing and implementing crucial ocean-based climate strategies.
